Graymist Studios Cambridge X Daitokuji Temple, Kyoto Japan
During the summer of 2014, Graymist Studios in conjunction with Kyoto City Council of Culture realized an exhibition of traditional and contemporary modes of Nantucket Baskets at the Historically significant temple of Daitokuji, Kyoto.
Daitokuji Temple is known most famously for being the birth place of traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, housing historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, among others.
By intermingling the cultures of Nantucket Island and Kyoto Japan, the exhibition showed a visually complimentary combination of East meets West type of collaboration.
The event was documented and printed as a photo book/zine in an effort to exhibit beyond the duration of the actual show. The photos and design as well as the publishing are all done in-house at shayshotco.
Oskar is a short film written and directed by Toshiki Yashiro.
The film works as a single bodied inquiry on how self identities break down through a series of fictional confrontations that enables separated "selves" to manifest in physical forms.
It is, in a way, a visual sequence that wants to operate as a written essay questioning fantastical scenarios and hypotheticals of the self.
some things just exist throughout the world.
